How to Choose a Pram
Buying a Pram? Here's everything you need to know.
- Written on 1st July 2021
I wrote this 'advice article' to help people understand what they should look for in a pram. Over many years helping customers with this, I've acquired a good understanding of what one needs to know in order to select the model that's right for them. The aim of this 5-minute read is to compile the most essential pieces of advice that I have to offer into a single page, a bit like a bible for those thinking about buying their first pram, or their second for that matter. I hope it proves to be helpful.
How to handle too much choice
If you've been researching buggies/prams/strollers online then you've probably experienced difficulty in dealing with the vast amount of choice out there and understanding the difference between them all. Once broken down, however, you'll learn that the seemingly endless list of options will be drastically shorter after a few key considerations. First, by considering reputable makers you'll dramatically narrow your options down, and in doing this you're also likely to save yourself from disappointment once you open your pushchair and use it. As a parent you're forever juggling - it can be hard to appreciate just how much and you'll thank yourself for choosing the right pram. All parents eventually learn that a decent pushchair makes life easier when you need it most in lots of simple but meaningful ways.
After many years of supplying several brands we took the decision to specialise in Bugaboo, not least because Bugaboo's talent for making modern strollers pre-dates that of any other company by some distance, earning them wide recognition as 'the original'. More importantly however, as the undisputed market leader since 1996 Bugaboo have managed to combined decades of know-how with rather enormous research & development budgets year after year. The result in my experience is that Bugaboo prams tend to be several steps ahead of the copycat brands, and the difference is not subtle. For us parents it means smooth, solid buggies that inspire idyllic strolls vs. a flimsy, rattling, uphill struggle.
Should I consider buying secondhand?
You may have spotted that Pramsy offers a huge selection of Refurbished Bugaboo Prams too, all of which have been professionally serviced and beautifully reconditioned by our very own Bugaboo Service Engineers. A well-made pram has more than one life, and our selection of loved-again buggies is testament to the build quality in Bugaboo products. Beware of used prams from less reputable makers - these rarely stand the test of time. Also beware of buying used Bugaboo's from unofficial, non-approved Bugaboo Service Centres, which can come in the from of independent online pram traders, eBay sellers and the like. Safety is paramount when it comes to your little ones and at Pramsy we offer peace of mind in this respect.
Bugaboo's warranty is industry leading
The other key consideration, which people seldom think about, is the after-sales care. But when purchasing a buggy, build-quality and safety should be at the forefront of your mind. I think Bugaboo have the better warranty policy of all the brands we've worked with in the past, offering a 4 year quality guarantee on already brilliantly-engineered strollers. As a Bugaboo specialist we deal with Bugaboo International directly on behalf of our customers should you need support.
Now let's narrow down further
The Bugaboo range is extensive, and it's possible to get lost amongst their plethora of models and designs, which covers every basis from twin prams, to luxurious rides, to purely practical solutions for those on the move. As buggy specialists, but also as parents ourselves, the team at Pramsy know every model inside-out, including all the small things you don't discover until you're out strolling. We've reduced your list to a reputable brand, now let's use the table below to drill down on which model you should choose. I've listed the key features for each model so that you can tick your own boxes as you work through the list and find that perfect solution.
